Patient Access Coordinator (#1428)
Position Details:
Shift: Full-time; Variable shift times (Monday - Friday)
Salary: $44,173 annually. Includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field and the equivalent of 2 years of full-time experience in an ambulatory or outpatient clinic, healthcare business office or patient access type of environment; or an Associate’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of 4 years of full-time experience in an ambulatory or outpatient clinic, healthcare business office or patient access type of environment.
NOTE: Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Cancer Institute as following acceptable educational practices.
The preferred candidate will have a Master's degree, a nursing background in an oncology setting, and a working knowledge of insurance preauthorization and billing with specialization in clinical trial and specialty pharmaceutical drug preauthorizations. Excellent organizational skills, excellent time and attendance, a proven track record with insurance referral and pre-authorization work, and a working knowledge of computer data systems and online insurance verification tools are also preferred.
Nature of Work and Responsibilities:
This Patient Access Coordinator will work in the insurance preauthorization area of Patient Access, facilitate the efficient, effective and timely entry of patients into the various diagnostic and treatment areas of the Institute, coordinate activities for those engaged in patient access operations, and participate in daily Admission, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) functions. This candidate will coordinate all access-related activities including data gathering, triage, communicating with referring physicians, scheduling visits and pre-visit diagnostic tests, communicating expectations to patients, communicating with disease-site teams, and providing insurance and financial clearance for new and return visits. Further responsibilities will include speaking with utilization review nurses and medical directors prior to the calls going to peer review, discussing the personal financial responsibilities of patients with respect to investigational or non-covered treatments, and attending disease site multi-disciplinary team meetings and communicating pertinent information back to the access and clinical team.
